About this deal

Hailed by public and critics alike, Liquid Spirit won the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album in 2014. There are a fair number of reviews that say this album is not as good as previous ones, but for me this is an all time classic.

From tempo tracks (Liquid Spirit) to quiet ballads (When Love Was King) the sound was deep and engaging. We are happy to share our knowledge and passion with you, providing expertise and support for your new or evolving business. In this arrangement there’s a lead voice some of the time but you can easily adapt it for a group of singers if you prefer. There are few albums where when you want to sit back with a glass of wine and unwind that you don’t end up reaching for the skip button for some of the tracks… but this is one of those rarities. Of course, he has such an amazing voice that this is all justified - but what made him stand out from the crowd before, was the Jazz musicianship and sophistication. Those of you into Blue Note jazz may have noticed that original recording engineer Rudy Van Gelder has been painstakingly digitally remastering a lot of the back catalogue to get the best from CD format.

The sound is more Blues-Soul than Jazz which is where the problem possibly lies with the purists, but the superb “stripped back acoustic” sound makes this a very intimate listen. Each part gets a share of the gospel harmonies and your singers need to be on their toes with rhythm and timing. Blue Note have found a once in a generation voice which will hopefully be given the creative support to continue making such masterpieces. However, this album sees a move away to more and shorter tracks - mostly around 3-4 minutes, with less of the Jazz improvisation and solos we had on the previous two albums. The runaway track here is "Liquid Spirit" a no nonsense song about the greed of man (read capitalism) that deprives people of their basic needs like water.

After two solid albums on Motema, both of which earned GRAMMY nominations, Gregory Porter made his Blue Note debut with Liquid Spirit in 2013. All songs written by Gregory Porter, and arranged by Porter, Chip Crawford and Kamau Kenyatta, except where noted. The whole album is cohesive - but the longer tracks have been left to the end - hopefully people will get to these, as for me, this is the most impressive part of the album. We offer a range of machines in multiple configurations, and we’ll work closely with you to find the perfect fit for your business. It won the best 2014 Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album, and reached top 10 in Denmark, Germany, Netherlands and the UK. Big enough to organise events for over 1,000 guests, but small enough to care about the finer details that we know will make your special event even more memorable than you could imagine. Close your eyes and on a decent system this guy is right there with his band a few feet in front of you, delivering a pitch and note perfect performance with nowhere to hide. Recommencing with the water analogy that characterized his debut disc, Porter saw Liquid Spirit as a logical progression in his burgeoning discography as it touched on some of the same themes, particularly the highs and lows of romance, his childhood, and socio-political observations.

This is still evident to some extent and Chip Crawford, as main collaborator and pianist is excellent throughout - whether as accompanist or soloist.A wide range of music styles can be found on this album - jazz, gospel, ballad, blues, soul - which help paint a pallet of images and textures for the listener.
