About this deal

Personally, I thought the pacing could have been a bit quicker - I found myself getting frustrated by knowing more than our heroes at some parts.

Dee suggests that she might be able to kill two birds with one stone - she will get Clive Knowles to employ Carol as a live in cleaner. The obvious exception is the perpetrator, who is, in melodramatic fashion, particularly evil and sociopathic. I would like to thank Netgalley and Pan Macmillan for an advance copy of Date with Evil, the eighth novel to feature Samson O’Brien and Delilah Metcalfe of the Dales Detective Agency, set in the fictional Yorkshire town of Buncliffe. I think that it would be quite difficult to enjoy this one without having read the previous books in the series. Ida discovers the source of George's appetite, and takes Grigore and Pavel into her kitchen to feed them properly, trying to convince herself that they are good people. There’s plenty of cosy crime shenanigans to enjoy but at the same time, there are issues of human nature and murder brought to the fore. Much, much later in the story, Tolpuddle will turn up at the gypsy camp looking for help when Samson and Delilah are trapped in a freezer six hours away from death, and we will learn if the gypsies are thieves or heroes. Samson had realised that all the cases Dales Detective Agency were working on were related, but now Delilah is missing. Sur la vallée, planent de sombres secrets et malversations qui se suivent de tomes en tomes et qui apportent malheureusement une forme de répétition aux deux derniers tomes. Delilah, now a full partner in the Detective Agency, has installed CCTV to find out who / whose dog is persistently fouling the doorstep of Hargreaves, the local butcher.

I have grown very fond of the cast of characters and the well-described locations and had been eagerly awaiting this episode. However, in this case I found myself fairly lost given what was clearly extensive character backstories and plot lines that appear to have been carried over from previous books. She was born about 1969 to Irish immigrant parents who had scrapped their TV, and never owned another one. The sequel came out the same year and then shortly after, she decided to add another novel to the series and came out with the third book, which is titled Date with Mystery.

Its distinctive landscape and way of life provide the setting for her latest set of novels, the Dales Detective series. But in this book, everything fits - and I really think that the author did great work connecting the dots of a complex mystery backstory spread across all the previous books. Just as animals can be imprinted by humans if they spend too long with them, so I became imprinted with this amazing part of the world.Cozy Case Files Volume 16 (By: Carolyn Haines,Donna Andrews,Diane Kelly,Elizabeth Penney,Mindy Quigley,Korina Moss,M. C’est un peu dommage mais j’espère qu’une suite amène un peu de fraîcheur et permette de retrouver le charme des premières intrigues. Worse still Rick seems to be leaving incendiary devices all over the place (including at Twistleton Farm) to destroy any evidence. One is a shadow sneaking in the dark down from Rainsrigg Quarry towards his prey, and the other one awake is Tolpuddle, sensing trouble, and guarding Samson and Delilah.

The plan almost fails, when the famous Metcalfe temper flares and Dee doesn't stick to instructions, and launches herself at the wrong poisoner. DCI Frank Thistlethwaite is from a neighbouring police force, but he is convinced that Samson is corrupt, and determined to nail him. They suspect Ron's death was no accident, and interview everyone there - their cover is they are doing a Health and Safety audit for Harry. All of the elements of a standard cosy crime novel are present in this latest instalment of the Dales Detective. I would liken this book and indeed the series to a boiled sweet with a soft centre but a hard shell. Usually I am confident about just jumping into an ongoing mystery series as authors will provide background for readers new to the series.
